For Michael and his family's fight for his recovery...
Everyday we take our loved ones for granted...
then something happens to someone that hits close to home that makes us stop, breathe and think. That something happened to us here at The Terrace Club. That someone was Michael Serrano, our new and eager manager.
Michael was slow and steady. Never minded much that he was the new guy, was determined to do his job. He never seemed to get distracted, overwhelmed and always kept cool. All qualities opposite of mine. He was on his way to building relationships with all of you. Many of you had been introduced to him, some were not lucky enough yet. He was cool, collected and laid back. He was organized and my "diamond in the rough". Michael was already becoming my rock. We had collaborated effortlessly and he was a "doer". I asked and he got it done. He supported my big plans for spring/summer and we were working on Menu changes, Wine List changes, staff training & a list as long as owning a restaurant always includes. Michaels job was making my customers love The Terrace Club (even more) and ensuring you had a pleasant experience while you were here. As well as making my life easier, which he did!
On Tuesday April 2nd, while visiting his best friend in Buffalo, NY Michael was hit by a drunk driver. His friends father was also hit. They both were seriously injured with head trauma. Michael spent the fist week in a medical coma. He has made small steps forward which give the Dr's and his family and us here HOPE. Yesterday he opened his eyes! A few days ago he was able to write his name down. All signs that Michael is still with us and aware.
Doctors do not know how long his recovery will take. It's always hard to tell with head injuries. Michael has still not spoken a word. A "thumbs up" is his way of communicating for now.
Because the accident was in Buffalo, NY. His family has been staying at a hotel for weeks now. Unable to go to work because they naturally want to be by his side. Although The Terrace Club provides Michael with medical insurance the costs to his family, for his recovery are likely to amount to an exorbitant #. As for suing the drunk driver, he has nothing. If he did have insurance there is only a set amount that insurance carriers give. This amount will need to be divided by two, for Michael and his friends father. Legal fees will also add up.
So I ask you, not to come to the restaurant and give me business. Consider donating to Michael's Fund in lieu of dinner or lunch. This can happen to anyone at anytime and the support of friends and family are always expected. Help from strangers is a gift of love & hope in this thing we call life.
